Why tiny clay chairs?

For those of you who are curious as to why I make tiny chairs, I wrote a journal entry a while back explaining my fascination called “A Chair Affair”. This might help clear up any questions you may have. But here’s the abridged version:

I make tiny ceramic chairs - not to be used, but to be noticed. Each one has its own character. Some are cheeky, some understated, some a little too proud of themselves. They’re not copies - they’ve got their own personalities. I make each one out of clay by hand in my home studio in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, one at a time. No mass production - just me, the clay and a lot of time, a sprinkle of obsession and a heck of a lot of attention to detail. That’s what makes each piece completely unique. These chairs sit somewhere between sculpture and object - playful, familiar and affordable. Art you can live with. They’re not furniture. They’re just having fun being tiny clay chairs with big personalities.
