ABOUT

Emily Brookfield is a ceramic artist and photographer based in Lilydale, Victoria, Australia.

A woman with curly hair and glasses looks down at a collection of small, colorful, miniature ceramic chairs arranged on a table.

Ceramics

Spanning over seven years, Emily’s ceramic journey has seen her work exhibited at various galleries in Australia, stocked pieces in the NGV Design Store and Craft Victoria and has taken her to Japan where she completed two artist residencies. Emily has taught pottery classes since 2020 and is currently offering 1:1 wheel throwing and hand building lessons from her home studio alongside her personal practice. She continues to engage with the ceramics community through group exhibitions and other events.

Emily’s current work is informed by material exploration and an investigation of object interaction to create a sense of place. Our innate need to attach meaning and sentimentality to objects continues to fascinate Emily and the connection of community through clay drives her practice. Her current focus is on constructing miniature chairs. Familiar objects in our everyday, reimagined.

Photography

Prior to her current modalities, Emily worked as an ecommerce stylist for a large department store alongside many commercial photographers. What she learnt during that time has helped to tell her own creative story. It sparked an obsession with styling and imagery that champions the object and the maker. Over the past year Emily has been assisting other creatives to elevate their presence online through her ability to authentically capture their work, space, and process in a way that reflects their passion and highlights all of their good sides ;)
