About Emily Brookfield

Spanning almost nine years, Emily’s ceramic journey has seen her work exhibited at various galleries in Australia, stocked pieces in the NGV Design Store and Craft Victoria and has taken her to Japan where she completed two artist residencies. Emily has taught pottery classes since 2020 alongside her personal practice. She is currently based in Geelong where she continues to engage with the ceramics community through exhibitions, teaching and other events.

Emily’s current ceramics practice is informed by material exploration and an investigation of object interaction to create a sense of place. Our innate need to attach meaning and sentimentality to objects continues to fascinate Emily and the connection of community through clay drives her practice. Her current focus is on constructing miniature chairs. Challenging the traditional value we place on an everyday object by altering its scale rendering its form more important than its function.
